Married Life Thus Far

So, I was thinking about my marriage yesterday and something occurred to me; we have not had a fight once during our month and a half of marriage. Much of the time you hear that the first year or so of marriage is the hardest and that it is only a matter of time until a major fight. Well, for those who'd be tempted to declare such about our relationship, we have some tricks up our sleeves that we have intentionally incorporated into this relationship to avoid and correct typical couple discord:

1)Both of us are quick to assume personal fault on self rather than the typical finger pointing of other relationships.
2)Neither of us believes that stress or emotion should be taken out on someone but rather that those close to you are good confidants and can help you work through your stress. And as much as that sounds quite logical and typical, many many people do the exact opposite and vent their stress on loved ones, causing real damage.
3)We believe in and practice quick forgiveness and valuing the relationship above personal ego.
4)I have gotten really good at being understand and NOT trying to fix the problem while she has improved significantly in expressing herself and her feelings.
5)We took 4 pre-marital classes and a communication counseling course to ensure that we were a cohesive and well coordinated team in our engagement.
6)We use trails to build our relationship instead of letting them stress or hurt it. This was particularly useful during our engagement.
7)We know each other's love languages and are both proactive in fulfilling each other's emotional and love needs. (Both of us our words of affirmation)
8)We work as a team on homework, chores, schedules and lots and lots of back scratches!
9)We pray together, do family scripture study together and bear testimony at home to each other.
10)We admit our faults, inquire to each other what we can do to improve, actively correct personal weaknesses while praising each other's improvements, and always always show selfless love through little acts of kindness.

I have seen a lot of relationships and how they are dysfunctional, and am actually quite acquainted with the requisites of communication and fine points of relationship building and maintenance. I have in fact studied such quite a bit and took deliberate measures to create a strong relationship early on. I made sure her emotional needs were a top priority. I validated her regularly and payed special attention to what worked and didn't communication-wise and, after 11 months of knowing each other, find that we are really doing well. Lisa also did major efforts and really stepped up to the challenge that a marital relationship requires.

I think that the amazing success of our relationship despite frequently ardent opposition is a result of a selfless love motivation. Care was always the base of our feelings for each other instead of the world's typical selfish lust. We really cared and showed it and it has paid indescribable dividends. We are very very happy!
